Help passing smog

I need to get my truck smogged this week. My main issue is the truck has no emissions equipment at all, not even cats. I bought it from a guy who lived in a no smog county. From what I've been told, they don't check under the hood or under the vehicle here in Oregon. Just throw the sniffer up the pipe & test that. Is there any chance in heck I'll pass?

P.S. Truck has crate 350, Edelbrock intake/performer carb, mild cam, headers straight back to flowmasters.

Maybe... but the good thing is that most smog stations will give you a free retest within 30 days, so if you bomb it, you can get it fixed and go back.

In my experience, straight out of the box Edlebrock carbs don't pass smog. I had to lean my 600 out with jets and metering rods to get it to pass.

I used to live in Oregon and I just put my DL license address under my mothers place on the coast, no smog county.
Just like what Slammed said, try it out and see what the results are, talk to the guys doing the test and they will usually help you out as far as fixing it up, there are a few tricks like leaning it out and a few others that I can't remember.

A dirty greasy mechanic usually knows all of the tricks and will set her up to pass, than when your done, you go back and he puts it back so it will actually drive well.

Good luck with it all, at least you have trip permits in OR, NC has none!!

Thanks for the help guys. I know a mechanic that might be able to help me out. The trip permits are nice, but $30 for 20 days is robbery, lol.

One thing that'll clean the emissions up is using ethanol.  Use up your fuel until you're down to almost empty and dump a gallon of alcohol in the tank.  But make sure you do it right at the last when you're about ready to go through emissions because it eats rubbers badly.  Once you're finished, quickly fill up the tank with regular fuel.  An alternative would be to use some E85 fuel but that's providing that you live close to one of those stations.  Another thing that helps to have changed the oil not long before the test.  And make sure that your spark plugs and wires are in healthy condition.

Hey k20wulf, I live in oregon also and had to take my 75 through with no cats or emission stuff at all 1406 edelbrock carb with a 454. Went through 3 times passed the third time. Each time I failed I took it home and messed with the timing and finally did new plugs wires and changed oil and it passed. Just make sure you drive it for a good 25 min before you go in, get it all warmed up. You can take it through for free as a test vehicle to see if you will pass as many times as you want. Hope this helps.
