Inop ammeter gauge

Hi all, the ammeter gauge has never worked in my 74 SBC, long bed since I bought it and I'm trying to track down the problem. The factory manual says to  first check two fuses in the engine compartment but doesn't show where they're located. Can anyone tell me where I should look and what they look like. Thanks.

Sorry about that, you can read a lot on that forum but for whatever reason that Electrical section can't be read without signing up.  Very similar to this site there is a bunch of great guys helping each other.  There is a guy on their who is brilliant and does these right ups helping folks understand how things work.

Thanks for the link but all I need to know is where these fuses are located the shop manual says to check. I found two fuse holders near the firewall which checked out OK but I'm not sure if those are the ones in the ammeter circuit. The wiring schematics don't help much.

Those amperage gauges seem to have been problematic. Mine used to occasionally work, but usually it didn't. I disconnected it, and don't plan on installing another one. Right now, I'm in the process of modifying my dash for aftermarket gauges.

But yeah, two black, rubber fuse holders. Once you open them, they don't go back together easily, if I remember right. Also, you might try removing the gauge from the gauge housing and make sure the contact studs are making good contact.
