never wants to start

ok i just had my carb re built and everything has been working great. the problem is that the guy told me the choke was not working. Everytime this truck sits for a week or so I can never get it started again. I had it started for like 2 seconds today, it just keeps turning over  and over if i keep my foot on the floor it will run like crap but it is like it just wont rev up to start. i can tell it wants to but just seems to lack power or something, let my foot off the gas and it dies. I am getting spark and I am  getting feul. i killed the battery now so i have the charger on it will try again in a few hours. Does this everytime it sits.

Best to fix the choke and go from there.  I had a truck with no choke and I had to pump it while I was cranking it constantly to get it to catch and jazz with the gas pedal to keep it going and after about 5 minutes it would idle on its own.  At the time mine ran perfect after it was warm.

Ok i got it started and this is what I found. When i keep the revs up everything runs great soon as i let off the gas bang it stalls. So i thought i must have a fuel sending problems, checked all of that.... fuel is flowing great. even took out the filter to see if it was that. tried running it with no filter and same thing. I than was able to get it to run fine as long as i didnt touch the fuel and than i noticed that the carb is smoking like it over loading itself with fuel, than i noticed that fuel is leaking from the bottom of the carb on both sides. this stop after i let it sit and tried it again. So I let it cool down and checking everything noticed i have a plug wire that was resting on my header and burned through, changed that and still have the same problem. I need to get this fixed ASAP as i have this truck going to the body shop this week and this guy is not going to fool around with this. It took me for ever to get this guy to get ,e in and now this..... I am extremly stresses with this truck at the moment..... HELP . I should also mention that I ran it dry of fuel this week in the garage and that 2 weeks ago when i was working on it , it was purring like a kitten best it ever worked.

bad rebuild. it might be the choke as well but you've got a huge leak also. when i rebuilt my carb i was told

Your leak on the bottom is most likely the plugs on the bottom of the carb. They are known to leak. the fix for it, and it will probly mention it in the rebuild instructions is to put two pools of epoxy over them.

i did that, but my rebuild kit also came with a little foam puck that slid underneath those two spots.

also you have to make sure the float isnt sticking... a really good clean gasket helps too!

I didn't do the rebuild the guy did it for me so have no idea on the epoxy thing.... he really knew his stuff I will say that for him. He was turned on to me by another guy after i got ripped on the first rebuild. I know for sure that this guy did the rebuild and that is was top shelf work. my ruck never worked so good when he was done. He is also the guy that told me my choke was toast and to get a new one. Can you explain the float sticking... how do i check this? This sounds like it could be it. Also I would agree with the gasket because he told me that mine had seen better days. i will have to do that on Monday... man I should really use spell check. I just went back and read my first post.... oh my.

first thing i would do is look up the part number of your choke and order that. is it electric? operated by a thermostat coil? then i'd replace the base gasket. im assuming its the thick one at the very bottom.

honestly if he rebuilt it and is reputable he would have noticed a broken/corroded float, so maybe it isnt that. you'd have to open up the carb to check that.

maybe someone else will read this and give some info. order a choke and buy a new gasket from autozone/advance/pepboys etc...they all should have it.

Also check your fast idle cam to make sure it is activated with your choke. Maybe someone here can post a little more info on how to do that.

my choke is the coil type but it does have a wire gong to it? also my gsket at the bottom is the thick one

found the problem, I think. The carb bolts on my carb where all loose. I tighted the bolt and it seems to be working better. time will tell. I will try it again tonight.

as a rule of thumb, i go back over any nut and bolt on anything i install after a few days of driving. they always seem to loosen up a little.
