my plan was to eliminate the EFI and fuel pump and convert to carb---this way i got something simple and easy to fix.  But i figure if i'm going to do that i might as well get a new/reman engine since i was planning on taking the engine out anyways during the conversion.

The work you would have to do to go backwards is more work than it would take to learn something new about new technology. However the EFI system you are talking about is not new technology and is about as simple as it gets. It's more simplistic than carburetion.

As far as getting another engine I still don't get it. Unless you grenade yours it'll be much more eceonomical to repair it.

That looks like the one that will bolt right into the chassis.  What i'm mainly concerned about is will all the accessories/exhaust bolt right up.  Probably will but will double check.

I know the car's been good to you, but you've got a $600 car there.  You could buy a low miles cavalier for the price of the new motor.  Or go to a used Cobalt that has a newer, better version of the motor for not much more.  The best thing to do is nothing and drive it until the wheels fall off.  That or sell it and get something with lower miles.  I wouldn't even stick a junkyard motor in that car.  Its nothing against the car, I'm sure its been great it just doesn't have any value and with a brand new motor wouldn't have much more value.  If you converted to carb. it would cost you something and would likely lower the value even more.

Unless the car has sentimental value to you i say drive it till it goes.We got a 1994 eagle vision  with a 3.3 v6 here with 237,000 miles on it.We have owned the car since day 1.It has never had a rebuild, its had gaskets like the intake plenium and the oil pan.Seen a few starters and a couple of water pumps and so on.The car looks like heck but were gonna run it till the motor goes.Unless your really attached to the car i think your better off just driving it till it goes.

thanks
