What is the trick to removing the driver's side kick panel?
« on: March 19, 2011, 12:55:08 pm »
1977 C 10 Stepside

I suppose my real question is, Do I have to remove the e-brake assembly? I've tried the lifting all the way and twisting thing but it seems to be hung up, I'll just keep tugging at it.

No you shouldnt have to. just remove the hood release and the kick panel screws. It should be easier with the e brake off, just make sure the truck wont roll.

Well, no hood release so thats not it. E-brake is off but still can't get the thing off, I'm just going to do some taping and paint the darned thing in the truck. Thanks for your input though beastie, always appreciate it when you chime in (that could sound sarcastic, but its not).

Thanks

You cant see anything else that might be holding the panel in? Im just going off of memory, as mine have not been on my truck for a few years.

I think its held up by the e-brake brackets. I just can't find a way to get around it and I don't want to take the time to take the e-brake assembly off for a ten minute rattle can paint job. I just tape things up and held my breath. It looks good, not great but you only really see the missed spots when your head is under there. I also hit the e-brake pedal and a few other things while I was at it. Cab smells awful but looks nice.

On my 77 k10 the bracket for the e-brake did have to come off.  2 screws on the kick panel and 1 on the firewall.  That was the only way I could get the kick panel off.

I thought as much, maybe some day when I have the patience I'll take it out and paint the panel correctly.
