I've always had Redwings or Doc Martens. My First pair of Docs, with saftey toe and esd safe lasted 3 years of daily wear and tear and I had them re-soled once.

I have been wearing steel toe boots 50-65 hours a week for 13 years.  At first I tried a few different cheap brands that were recommended by coworkers.  Soles curled into a banana, split completely in two, or generally got uncomfortable within 1 to 1-1/2 years.  Then I realized the ones recommending them sat on their butts all day!  I broke down and bought Red Wings close to three years ago and they're holding up great.  They are still comfortable, the oil and grease hasn't distorted the sole, and no stitches have come loose.  There is a little wear on the soles, but not much.  I occasionally nudge 2200 degree forgings with the toe to flip them over, and even that hasn't damaged the leather.  I'm wearing them now!

Thanks for all the responses, you guys made this much less overwhelming.  I finally decided on these from Ariat.

So I got my boots finally, Ariat has them on backorder till June, so I had to find a private seller.  My first impressions are:  These are some insanely comfy boots and they are made to last, stitched sole, Composite toe, hard plastic heel protector and it seemed to me that they used thicker leather than the redwings my dad has.  The only thing I have noticed is the tread is more designed for concrete than the outdoors, but I don't see that being a problem.  We shall find out how they perform on my 8 hour shifts this weekend.
