Interesting discovery....

Well I was showing my dad pictures i took of my engine and carb so he could help me figure out my carb issues. Anyway as soon as he looked at the first picture he told me that the engine in my 76 3/4 ton looks to be from the mid 60's. I haven't found the serial number on the block yet to trace it but I thought it was kinda cool having the older model 350 in there. He also said that those older model 350 truck engines had a bit bigger cam too and more than likely a 4 bolt main. So that put a smile on my face. When I find the serial number I will trace it and find th origins of this beast.

Not to burst your bubble but 350's started out in the late 60's, 1967 according to wikipedia.  The # is on the pad just behind the alternator.  Post it up and we'll find out what it is...

You can't tell by looking at the outside. It could be a 79 305 with early 60 intake, and valve covers!
It could be a 60's 283, or 307?

The 350 definitely came out in 67. Ive read that in several articles and books. But I guess 67 could be considered mid 60's.

Regardless, you can't just tell it was an older 350 by looking at it...The PO could have changed valve covers and intake as mentioned.

     From 67 to I think 80 the same mold was used for the chevy 350, u can not tell by looking on the outside if it was a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main, only running the serial number ( standing at front of engine, go to back drivers side below head on the block and find the numbers ) will it tell you if it is a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main.
     As mentioned heads, valve covers, and intakes can be changed easily enough.
