easiest way to remove windows?
« on: April 06, 2011, 09:28:01 pm »
i want to tint my passenger and driver side windows and it feels like the easiest way would be to take them off the track and do it outside the door.

arent the windows glued in place?

The glass part is glued to the track, and the regulators' wheels are in the track.  just slide the wheels out of the track and it'll come out with the glued track still attatched.  You'll have to unbolt the regulator and remove it first to get the glass out.  I'd also remove the outer wiper to give you more room to maneuver it.

I tinted my windows while they were out of the truck and it was about 50 times easier.

If you search youtube there is a video for installation of the window and weatherstrips.  I found it very helpful.  I originally took mine out without removing the vent window, but after watching how easy it was with the vent window out that's my choice now.

Unbolt the regulator, then slide it and the arms off the glass, and out of the door track. Drop the glass down in and turn it 90 degrees, it will lift right up outside the upper door frame. No need to remove the outer wiper as the inner one is already removed along with the interior door panel. Turning it 90 degrees you also don't need to remove the vent window frame.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Also:  pay close attention when you are removing the glass.  check for stuff that may scratch the new window tint when putting the glass back in.

Check with local law enforcement about how dark of tint you can go.  There is a fairly new post by a member here that was pulled over because of the tinted windows...
