gen light probs.
« on: April 08, 2011, 09:33:07 pm »
i just redone my whole brake system on my k-10......   its wonderful. i drive it about 5 miles and start back home.......i notice in the dark one of my 4 red warning lights come on to my left. i thought it was the brake light but it was my gen light. it would come on and go off erepeatedly. most times it would go off under load but by the time i got home it just did it when it wanted. i checked the belt.   its tight. i took the pos cable off while running and it didnt go dead and while the cable was off the light still came on...off.... any ideas?

Put a volt meter on the battery and see if it changes any. Could just be a loose/bad connection wire in the cluster pig tail

As Irish said, then work your way back to the light, either you got a short that is touching every so often, or something is going out.

I would check the belt.  Make sure it is not to loose and not worn.

Check the negative battery cable and make sure your engine ground to cab it there...

have you checked the volt meter on the batter yet? whats that read. and just like your light is telling you it's only going to test bad when that light is on
