door hinge/bushing install on 2000 chevy K2500
« on: April 10, 2011, 11:20:50 pm »
After 185K the drivers door on my 2000 K2500 is starting to sag.
I bought new bushings and pins from GM.
Tried to install them today (sunday).
Removed the door and drove out the old bushings without any problems.
Went to install the new bushings and they just seem to big.
Googled it and came up with a bunch of utube videos where the bushings slide right into place.
I tried a hammer, c clamp, using a nut and bolt to act like a press, destroyed them in the process. Went to autozone and bought anouther kit, same results. The replacement bushings are just to big for the hinge (i haven't even gotton to the bottom hinge where the bushings attach to the door.
My truck is a 2000 but it's the old 88-98 body style.
Thanks for any advice.

what year are the bushings for?
Also i know they make a universal bushing kit come with 5 different sizes if your pins are still good you can try that. Ive look for the 200 hinge and cant seam to find them AutoZone is saying the 88-98 is the same as 99-07 think that might be a problem

I wonder if they are giving you pins for the 99+ body style. Try ordering them for a 98 k2500

When I got the ones from GM I gave them the VIN # so I thought they would be the right ones. It almost seems like these bushings are oversized. Trying to figure out if you are supposed to drill out the hinge to fit these in.
The kit from Autozone says it fits 88-2002 p/u,suburbans and tahoe so it should fit. Both the GM ones and the autozone ones are the same size.
