Hello all,
I am planning on buying a southern Truck because the trucks up here are generally rotten beyond all repair or really expensive. I am looking to save my money and hopefully have the dough for next summer. I am just wondering what prices you guys see around you on craigslist or in the paper, I am not looking to buy a truck right now as I have a small reserve in my bank account and have just bought an 86 k10 short bed for parts ( $100, got in a really bad accident). Since I have got this short bed I really like the look of it and still want all the nice features of a Silverado.
Basically I want a 80's short bed 4x4 Silverado. A/C, tilt wheel, pwr windows, pwr locks, dual tanks, cargo lamp, cruise control,... I am just wondering what you guys are looking at price wise. I do not want a modified truck in any way not even aftermarket wheels, ideally it would have a bad engine/transmission/transfercase/blown up axles. But I understand thats asking a lot. is find a Totally unmolested truck going to be hard to find or are they still out there? Basically looking to find an area with the lowest price for rust free prices to look on craigslist.

Since you are not going to buy till next summer, you have plenty of time to " shop " around and look. You said you bought a 86 k10 for a parts truck, hopefully you want another k10, as you know it has to be 81 up to match some of the things on your parts truck.
You asked for pricing, I know of an 82 k10 right now by me (sac, California) that has dropped to $600.00, it is in pretty good shape, just hasn't been started in 10 yrs. I am always looking locally and find them anywhere from $400.00 (parts truck I bought) to about $2000.00 depending on shape. Now of course there are the more expensive ones that people have to learn first they are asking too muck for, usually after a couple months I see them back on with the price dropping each couple of weeks.
So look around and compare, hard part is you always find what you consider a great deal before you actually want to buy one. Then you get all antsy and want it now.

I have found that a clean 2wd 73-87 can be bought for 3500-4500. Add another 500-1000 for a 4wd. Keep in mind, what we consider clean, you Northern guys would rate much higher. We are used to finding trucks with little or no surface rust. If it has cancer, we look elsewhere.
Your best bet is to use "Searchtempest" to search Craigslist. That will allow you to search any area you want to get an idea of what trucks are going for. I suggest looking in dry climate areas such as Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and California. The South is a good source, because Texas, Louisiana, etc have a gazillion of the 73-87 for you to choose from.

Now that is a good deal if all worked as stated. My problem is I like to fix them up, once fixed it is time to get another one.
