External Firewall Cover?
« on: April 21, 2011, 11:29:03 am »
I'm doing a frame-up restoration on a 1982 K20 Camper special.  The firewall had an insulated plastic cover attached to the engine compartment side of the firewall. Unfortunately, it has long since cracked and melted over time. I'm looking for a replacement. Any ideas on where I can find one?

Sorry. No pics. The old one was crumbling so I trashed it.  Looks like it was added for a little extra insulation from heat and sound. It was maybe 1/2" thick. Hard black plastic on outside and insulation underneath. Conformed to the firewall and held in place with what looked like self-tapping screws.

It was an option Camper specials models, pretty sure that it isn't reproduced though.  A buddy of mine had a 75 with it on it that I was going to get picture of but didn't.

I'm quite sure that it came this way from the factory. Sort of in the same fashion that a Silverado has more insulation, sound proofing, etc than the base models.
