front bumper
« on: April 29, 2011, 08:17:45 am »
I have a white front bumper on my 1980. Would love to have chrome, but dint want to pay the price for new and haven't found a decent used one. I was looking at paint the other day and saw "brilliant silver" The can said the paint matched the cap and it looked like it was chromed. Just wondering if any of you have tried it and what it came out like. I dint want it to look like cheap aluminum. Maybe it will end up black or something. Just cant stand the white  ::)

I can tell you a way to do it to make it last.  They do sell chrome in a rattle can, if you prep it really good, use a good primer, then chrome, then a clear overcoat, while letting each coat dry inbetween you can have a great looking bumper for a fraction of the cost of having it chromed.
I have done this and if you take your time and prep and prep, it will turn out good and last all with rattle cans.

thanks bake. I might try it. It's not on my short list, trying to get the interior painted and things back together so I can drive it. Just one of those things that will finish it out a little better. I can see where the clear would make the difference. Wondering now what that would do to wheels??? And I thought my boat was a money pit!!  ::)
