Speakers What kind and Where for 81 Chevy?
« on: February 01, 2006, 03:38:00 pm »
I have a 1981 SWB, Single Cab 2wd Chevy Cheyenne. The current configuration is center dash single speaker with AM radio. There are holes in the Dash Pad for left and right speakers. Also, there are cut outs behind the left and right side of cab for speakers. My question is what kind and size should I put in to get a quality sound. Now, I'm not an Audio Intelligent guy. Can't hear too good either.... too many concerts in the 70's I guess. I'm not a discriminating sound enthusiast. I just want good sound. Also, I don't know the difference between a tweeter and a woofer. What kind of speakers should I place where in the cab for a quality sound. I do plan on an AM/FM CD player install. Just not sure if I should hide it or purchase an OEM looking upgrade and swap out the AM that's there now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

hmmm well if your not to big on the idea of a booming system, you have a wide varity of options speaker wise. the factory speaker option was 3 1/2" in the dash corners and 4x10" in the cab corners. most people upgrade to a pair of 6x9s. as for the headunit upgrade you really dont have alot of options when upgrading to a cd player. either you have to cut up ur radio opening to get a cd player to fit or keep the radio where it is and mount cd deck somewhere else. only other option is to find a cassette deck that has a 2 shaft style chassis like the original unit does, but with a digital display and add a cd changer. good luck!
