crate engine questions.
« on: May 03, 2011, 10:29:24 pm »
so after i finish building up my chopper i want to invest in a new(er) engine. budget is of course a concern and i dont want to make it too crazy since it will more or less be a daily driver.

first question: i dont have room for an engine swap, so what would be a ball park estimate for a shop removing and lowering a new one in?

second question of course being: what would you guys suggest for a semi complete or complete crate engine?

ive been looking at this... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-12499529/?rtype=10

I would think 300-500 would be a good range for the installation +or- depending on exactly what is needed. If you know of a reputable local machine shop; I wold go there and get some pricing. Just get the recommendations first, they must stand behind their work.

Find a few shops that have good reviews and go visit them. See if any of them will give you a firm price, instead of X amount per hour. Id find one that will break it in and tune it as well.

Just remember, the more work you do, the less you have to pay them so you could drain the coolant, oil, etc, and disconnect the exhaust, fuel, smog equipment, bracketry, etc. Then have it towed over to the shop.
