305 engine New Carb info.
« on: May 03, 2011, 11:49:56 pm »
Sup guys, my mechanic says that it might be my rebuild carb on my 305 engine that its causing the lost of power, he checked the timing and its set right, but still slow and not going how it suppost to, so hes gonna do a full diagnostics on the truck, so if the problem its the carb. would it be good to re-rebuild the rebuild carb or buy a new one and which carb will i need for my 305 engine, i have a 1986 scottsdale 2wd...

rebuild would be cheaper if the carb is the problem.

im new to the carb. so im not sure how many times can u rebuild it till it finally brakes ? i think the last owner rebuild the carb like 6 months ago,but im not 100% sure of that... like around how much the rebuilding kit cost and a new carb for that engine?

so the mechanic says my carb its bad.. after a full diag. he did on the truck, he found out the carb was bad and needed to be rebuild or new... i check on the last owner paper when he had it rebuild, but the shop only give him 6 months warranty and that was last year :( ...
he paid $355! to get it rebuild. i think thats alittle too much..

I am rebuilding my carb this weekend but I will be doing it myself. I haven't done a complete carb rebuild but before but for the price difference I more then willing to make it work. My mechanic buddy who knows what skills I have and dont have with a wrench told me just to lay it out as you take it off so it goes back together in order and to fallow the rebuild guide. The gasket kit, float , pull off choke and coke coil ran me about 40 bucks, o ya and a can of GOOD carb cleaner. I say try it yourself worst case you have to pay to have it put back together, nothing ventured nothing gained right?

look on the side of your carb right behind the throttle and there will be an eight number code. After that you can check its year here http://www.carbkitsource.com/carbs/catalog/ChevroletTruck/index.html to make sure of the year and such unless its aftermarket. Should be able to do it in a day as long as you get an early start.

since my truck its not running fast enough and while its going,it sounds like it loose power... would the carb. be the one causing the problem?
