Coolant importance.
« on: May 04, 2011, 11:33:03 am »
I dont have any pictures, but I had to replace my water pump last night. So, I wanted to talk about the importance of using anti freeze in your cooling system. So far I have run straight water in my truck. And that has played quite a corrosive role on my cooling system components. Its put holes in 2 of my freeze plugs, and put a hole in the backplate of my water pump, luckily I was ten days from my 1 year warranty being up. So, using antifreeze in your cooling system will preserve the water pump bearing, keeping it from leaking oit.of the weep hole, and also reduce corrosive reactions inside your engine. Im just tryong to save some of you guys a lit of work  I know many of you are smart and use antifreeze already. But there are some like me who might have to learn the hard way.

ha, that's what my father does, is put straight up water in his coolant reservoir. I switched it all out, and put coolant in there now.

And for those of you needing to do a coolant change, please ensure you buy environmental friendly coolant. There isnt a price difference to complain about, especially with the importance of doing it. Some of you might say that you are careful and never spill a drop, but you never know when a hose will blow, freeze plug rots out, or you get a hole in your radiator.
