83 K20
« on: May 10, 2011, 08:58:14 pm »
I just came across this forum and have been checking out things.  There is a bunch of awesome outfits on here.  Figured I'd show off my all-time favorite ride, I am rather proud of it regardless how it looks.  It's nothing special really, but my dad bought it 2 years old in 1985, the year I was born.  It was used hard as a ranch truck for the first 20 years of it's life, then sat for 4 with a bad engine until I bought it.  I've now had it for 4 years and put more money into it than it's worth, but I do not care.  It's a bit of a toy in the summer and then goes back to daily driver in the winter.  As of right now it's got an aluminum head 350 that runs well enough.  I've got some dreams of either a 12V or a 454 and an NV4500 for it among other things, but that will wait until this fall after pulling season.

Kind of an old pic, but the best I have of it in street form.

And a little video

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!  I think it's been hooked to the sled 20 times in the last 2 years.  This summer it will see atleast 7 or 8 more depending if I have time.  Last year it never finished worse than 2nd so I hope I can keep that streak alive.

I decided to order a set of 16x10 Mickey Thompson Classic Locks today.  My 305/70's just don't look right on 6.5" wide wheels.  I'll get some pics when they get here.

If you do much pulling you will want to upgrade to 1-ton axles. Especially if you go big block, or drop in a diesel.

I have been pulling square bodys for almost 20 years. The 73~87 Chevy/GMC trucks just seem to dominate gas 4x4 pulling. Very little set-up is needed to make one pull competitively.

BTW, good luck with your pulling, it can be addictive. Once it gets into your blood, there is only one thing to get that fix, and that is more pulling.....Sadly I have been off the track now for about 2 years, but will be back soon.

Thanks again for the welcome guys.  Still waiting on my wheels, should be here Monday.  I got bored today and decided to try to build a front bumper.  It's put together, just needs a bunch more grinding.  I'm not totally sure I like it, but that just might be the fact that it's different than it was and I'll get used to it.  I wish I would have started to angle back more in the center than I did.  What do you guys think?

Here's how this afternoon started.

And where I quit tonight

Thanks.  I actually have pulled it back off.  I decided I'm not done with it.  I feel it needs a little more to the bottom of it.  Right now there's a piece of 2" angled back at a 45* which I will extend to maybe 5" or so.  I also think I want to add a bit of a pre-runner type bar for the top.  I've got some time to think about it, I will be putting into puller mode next weekend and it may not get back to street mode until August.  I did get my new wheels today, mounted them up on my lunch hour because I was too impatient to wait.  I had to do some trimming on the fenders but not too much.  I'll get some pics as soon as I get a chance.

I think it looks good, with the exception of the top plate not covering the tan filler panel. Kinda looks outta place.
