Mud Bog tips & Tricks

Il be going in my first mud bog soon and just wondering bout any tips or tricks. Running a 81 K5 jimmy 6 inch suspension lift 35s 208 transfercase turbo 350 with a b&m shift kit and a 350 cid. Main concern is water gettin into the motor where you guys runnin your breather tube? should I put rubber flaps between the front inner fenders and the frame to keep mud out of the engine bay? and run it in 4 low or 4 hi? also there is a truck pull comming up soon  also first time should i run in 4 low or high? o and the jimmy has stock gears and locking front hubs. any other tips would be greatly apreciated thanks marc

I have run a mud flap below my front bumper before. The biggest problem I had was the starter getting filled up with mud, and not working. I run a stock air filter setup. and don't run my tube anywhere. If you get in that deep the breather needs to be sealed completely at the base etc. I spray WD40 all over my cap, and wires before a bog. I always ran my Blazer in lo range as it had 3:08 gears with 35s. I still run it in lo range with 4:10s and 44s.
81 Blazer stock 350, built TH350, 208 case.
PS the 208s don't like 44 inch rubber!

we had the problem with the mud in the starter so got a new starter and sealed her up with rtv sealant the only thing we didnt touch is the nose. no problems yet and that was 6 or so years ago. my bud took out his ac box and ran a tube from the cab to the carb and that works for him but its just a mud truck. i have 4.10 and sm465 never had any luck with low. also watch out for the hill at the end of the pit. hit it to fast and you will fly and break something like your face. get on the gas threw most of it stay close to the sides, and right at the end start letting off so your momentum will get you out not the gas

Stand on it and don't let off until your out the other end by at least 50' works for me. I wouldn't run in low range with low gears, a stick, and smaller tires either.

yeah low and my set up lol you can be in 3rd and only going 15 lol. seen this s10 with little 350 out of a dirt track car. well he hit the bump at the end he got a lot of air and when he came down his frame cross member was now on the ground and the front tires where barley hanging on. He would of won every one who went through the hardest pit sunk he went so fast I don’t think he left any tracks

I would recommend a tach. Keep your rpms below 5k if you dont want something broken.

alright thanks for all the tips just mounted my new rims today 15x12 with big offset i think that should help to float over the mud to. also you guys run your tires low on air pressure or just normal 35 to 40 psi?
