trans detent cable

I am pretty sure I posted a while ago somewhere about my detent cable not allowed my throttle to move. Anyway I figured out how to adjust it so I popped up the little tab on the detent bracket but it moves so far then gets really stiff. Is it supposed to be stiff like that? Should I just keep pulling? I don't wanna break anything and have to replace the cable. Its a th350 on a edelbrock thunder avs 650 with 1" carb spacer. Here is a picture of the contraption I made to compensate for the spacer. It seems like right when the stud on the bottom of the plate starts going upwards is when it gets really hard. Maybe too much leverage on that little plate I put in there?

I don't mean to be critical...but your kidding, Right? You can't make the "lever" longer (the piece you made) because that changes how much the bottom pin moves in relationship to the throttle shaft in center of the linkage. What is happening is you are bottoming out the mechanism inside the transmission since the cable is pulled all the way much sooner than originally designed & you still have throttle left to go. What you need to do is raise the bracket that the cable is mounted on in the rear or get rid of the spacer. Lorne
