New interior pics
« on: June 05, 2011, 07:10:54 pm »
I hope to have my 78 s/w back from the painters this month.  I have ordered my new door panels from Chris, they should be here next week.  In the mean time, I have been working on my interior pieces.  I have covered the dash, headliner, A and B pillars with the vinyl and cloth they are going to be done in.  Here are some pics.

Beautiful!  Need more info.!  Did you use adhesive, and what kind?  Did you have trouble wrapping the dash?  Did you have to make seams in the vinyl to get it to wrap around the dash's shape?  I love it.

That's a very nice job so far, saved yourself some money I am betting.

I used DAP by Weldwood.  Get the high temp adhesive as the headliner can get quite warm and could separate.  The dash took about two hours by itself although I could probably do it in an hour and a half now.  The dash DOES NOT have a seam it. I had to use extra vinyl and cut it funny but I really didn't want a seam.  I'll post dash pictures tomorrow.  The vinyl is kind of a fawn color used by Chevy in the 60's, the fabric is a close shade of fawn.  I'm going to highlight with with a tasteful amount hugger orange piping.  I got a quote from the upholstery shop of $3,000.00 to do the whole interior.  So far I have about $500.00 in materials including jute and carpeting.  I also bought a set of Chris's custom door panels.  I figure I'll save $2,000.00 not counting my labor.  Thanks for the kind words guys.

Wow, $2000.00 in savings, now either they were raising the price of material way up, or they have some outlandish labor rates.  How much time do you think you will have all together ?  From what you said already I am guessing 5 or 6 total.  That to me is well worth the savings.

Here are some pictures of the dash.  After doing this, I would never paint the inside again, unless it was a mudder or something like that.  The guy I took it to for the quote does a lot of high end rods - I probably could have got a cheaper quote.  This also covers small imperfections your dash might have.  I have about two hours and $20.00 into the dash.

Looks great!!  Is that adhesive roll on or spray on?  Did you have to use any special tools or was it mostly hand work?  I have all of the old vinyl off my dash and am considering taking this on.
