well the truck is gone
« on: July 03, 2011, 08:10:05 pm »
I had been ebating on getting rid of the truck for awhile and put it on craigslist fs/ft awhile back and didnt get really any offers so i decided to keep it but i hate seeing it just sit in the yard and only driven once a week to the dump and maybe once or twice to work. i put it back on craigslist friday and saturday evening i had an offer for a trade for a 92 heritage z28 white with red stripes which ive always wanted and i checked it out and it looks and drove like it was only 2-3yrs old other than the aging vinyl stripes. so we made the deal. im gona miss the truck but most likely ill have another one in the next 2-3yrs ive really been wanting a swb 2wd square body to do a lsx build in. i still plan to keep up with the boards daily but will bewithout a sqaure body for awhile. anyway just figured id let yall know and ill show ya a picture of what i got. honestly im surprised he traded me lol.

I've always liked it a lot too but I think because off the issues I kept having for awhile with it kinda made me fed up and all it did was sit most of the time only put 4k on it in 2 years. It will be missed and ill always remember it I kept my reg card and a copy of the vin so maybe one day ill search for it again but if not there are lots more in my area for sale.

Very nice looking Z28.  These cars were very popular on the road a few years ago being hammered by teenage drivers but I rarely ever see them now.  They might just one day become highly prized collectibles similar to the 57 Chevy.

From what I understand its been through two owners before me that was not the original owner and the other two both said the orignal owner had the motor and transmission re done car has 250k on it but you would never know it runs and drives like a dream a/c still works motor is as clean as my 100k 03 yukon. I've had 5 3rd gen fbody and none were this clean my 86 was close but not qute and it was a 200k+ car when I got it. The tv cable was adjusted wrong and it needs a coolant flush I noticed the temps climbs slowly once left to idle. I have a feeling the last two owners may have ditched it for these reasons or atlest the guy I got it from. Got enough pep to chirp second with me a passenger and a full tank of gas its got the lb9 tpi 305 700r4 2.73 g80 rear with disc brakes. Like I said I'm gona miss the truck but that was kinda one of those once in a lifetime deals lol.

What is a car like that worth in your area?

Unsure about a very good shape one like this but trucks go for a lot more. We have a lot of farms and mountians and get decent winters usualy. My 86 ta I bought almost 8 years ago for 1700 with 204k my 82 I had I paid $500 it had 132k and a bad motor had a 85 parts car I gave $100 for and a 88 rs camaro for parts I got for $600. This one was up for sale for $4000. Most ppl aroud here trade more the past few years no one has any money.

At least you wont have to deal with the starter bolt issue any more. Nice looking car! Though the truck will be missed.

My favorite modal of Camaro. I had a 91 RS with t-tops that was dark electric teal. I loved that car. Mine came with a 305. Ended up haveing an oiling issue so a friend that worked at the local gm dealer dropped a LT1 in it, and a good car got even better.

Nice ride. I'd say that was a decent trade. I've always liked those, as I'm 36 and remember when IROC-Z and those Z28's were new. You don't see them, or 5.0L Mustangs around much anymore. As they got cheaper, kids get them for 1st cars and beat the CRAP out of them and most likely write them off. That looks and sounds like a really nice survivor though for sure.

Which 305 is the LB9? Is that the 230 HP one? Or the low-po 205 HP? The HP ratings of thsoe cars constantly changed so it's hard to know what's what but wasn't the top-dog 305 the 235 HP dual-cat version that came with the 5 speed? As I recall those could be mid-14 sec cars.

Guy I knew in my home town had a red 91 Z28 with the hot 305 and a 5 speed that his dad bought for him in 1993. A year later his dad traded it for a new 94 Z24 Cavalier  LOL  Guess the V8 power was just too much.

One of my close friends bought a very mint 91 Z28 in 1993 as well. Low mileage, t-tops, clean red paint and taken very well care of. It might have been lowered a little too. The only downside was it was built as a "cruiser" as it had the 205 HP TPI 305, auto, 2.73 rear and rear drums. It would hardly spin the tires and my 88 Mustang GT 5 speed, 2.73 rear would SPANK it in a race. It was a nice looker though.

In my days i had a friend that had a 91 z28 convertible.I was working at a body shop as the car needed some paint work.He wanted the areas by the headlights painted in black so we did it.While looking at the car i noticed the taillights were the wrong ones, they were the standard style like 82-n up .I pointed it out to the kid and he said how did you know? I told him i been around some.Come to find out the car got rearended, n there was like a ton of seam sealer in the truck area.I also knew a female that had a 92 RS convertible that was black rose metallic. She had NOS fenders put on the car, new door skins and had all the bodywork, and painted it factory color.Car looked great, then she got engaged and sold the car.Another female friend had a 91 firebird with a hopped up motor, she sold the car and went and got a 92 25th anniversary edition. Last but not least i had a co worker that had a 87 Iroc with a very tired 305.Smoked worse then a chain smoker on a good day.I told him your putting this much work into it go n install a crate 350.Instead he put in a crate 305 and it still moved slower then a tank missing its tracks. I like the 82-92 camaros and firebirds, i had a 84 trans am that had a 305 i paid 500.00 for it, was black and gold and t tops and it needed work.I gave it to a friend and he ended up junking it.I WAS PISSED!!!!!!! I will no longer give anything away to anyone again.I keep everything as long as i can..

thanks
Pat

Yeah I've been around them since before I could drive. My uncle had a 92 firebird he bought used in 93 and he kept it till 02 he regreted selling it so he bought a 02 trans am in early 03 when it was still new and he still has it to this day. My 86 trans am I have was my first car and most likely ill keep it forever. The one in my sig I had for about 3 years it was a fun car ran mid 8s in the 1/8th with a modded 305 and th350 transmission but I sold the motor kept the transmission and exhaust and sold it as a roller for what I paid for it. I believe this car has the 205 version but has 285tq .the motor is strong I do believe its been rebuilt. With 5w30 oil holds 30lb of oil presure at hot idle and 60 under heavy load and over 40 with anything over 1/8th throttle. No smoke on start up and will spin for atleast 5-10ft off idle with posi 2.73s and bark second most of the time.
