Installing a carpet kit guide for a noob?
« on: July 05, 2011, 10:49:51 pm »
I have a carpet kit for my '77 gmc c10 and I am absolutely clueless on how to install it. if any one can point me to a guide somewhere it would be hugely appreciated!

lay it out in the sun for a few hours since it was bundled up in the box. while that is warming, take out all the necessary items in the way. clean the floor pans real good and lay carpet in. center it and when you got it where you need it, start putting stuff back in. I would trim the edges at the end, IMO. does it come with jute padding or is that separate?

Thanks! Any suggestions on how to get it in there with the gear shifter? It's a manual 4wd
and thats the only problem I'm really having

take the boot of, then you should be able to reach down and unbolt the shifter rod, not sure though, but that is how it is with 4x4.

Yes, just make sure to cut real carefully. Better to cut less, 3-4 times than make a big trim and be way short.

After you take the boot off there is a twist lock that holds the shifter in the transmission. If you want the shifter out of the way just push down on that and turn it to unlock it.

Give me a long enough lever and a place to stand, and I shall move the earth or break this bolt...Whatever, just hold my beer!

Put the shifter in Neutral and take the shifter out lay in the carpet and get it centered the best you can and cut a X about 3" long across the opening and adjust the position from there.  Install the boot over it after you get it where you like and make not of the size hole you need and cut it from there.  For all bolt hole, mark them with a small punch or awl and then cut a small slit for the bolt to go in.  Don't force a bolt through the carpet without cutting it.
