Horn Relay or Fuse?
« on: July 06, 2011, 07:42:11 pm »
I have an 85 k20 that is missing a horn. I am missing the hole assembly in the steering wheel but I was also wondering if there is a relay or fuse? If there is where is it located? Also I am wondering how do you remove the actual dash pad. I am going to install a radio but I need to take a look at the speakers

The horn has a contact under the wheel.
The dash comes off by removing all the bolts in the instrument bezel and the 4 bolts across the bottom of the passenger side dash and on 81-87 dashes there is a bolt in the end of the dash.

hello i have a 82 1500 the horn rely is hanging  on top of the fuse block the first thing i would check is the horn itself and hook up a test light to the horn wire if it lights up everything should be good
if the horn contact is bad or disconnected you won't here the relay note there,s other things that could be wrong  hope this helps   JM

Do you think you could take a pic and show me which one the horn relay is? I am in the process of locating the button and contacts that go into the steering wheel column. I am going to have to buy that stuff from  .

Maybe its missing? Look for the plug where it belongs and.bb if you find the plug then you need the relay.

SO while I was under there i noticed a single brown wire with a white stripe under the dash with a single connector on it but it wasnt connected to anything. It was near the fuse block kinda. I looked on a wiring diagram on here and it says that it Goes to the  (To Bulkhead Gen Res) 25. Any clue what that means. That and the stupid horn relay

OK lets see have you found and checked the fuse (its good) next did you check the horn itself (its good)

I think the relay works like this four wires go to it two comes from the fuse (they are crimped together)
one from the horn button and one goes to the horn.
on the 82 fuse wires are orange the horn contact wire is black and the one for the horn is green.

there is a buzzer plugged in at the top of my fuse block next to the top silver flasher unit my horn relay is on top of all that  try a search for horn relay or Google 85 Chevy K20 horn relay location

 hey man good luck  JM
