Paint prep

I'm wanting to paint all my trim pieces and was wondering if just sandblasting, priming, and then painting will work. I have billet, aluminum and chrome trims. Do I need any solvents for one type or will the above process work? Anything to keep me from doing more hand sanding!!!

By trim I mean the grille, grille trim, headlight bezels, fender trim, drip rails, cab trim, mirrors, tail gate, handles, bumpers, tail light and marker trims.

I painted all my trim on my 86. Sandblasting doesn't do much for stainless. I ground it all with 36 grit and then primed it with high build urethane, then sanded it all by hand. The only thing that didn't stick was the stainless around the grill. The aluminum around the tail lights I would just scuff with 320, then prime with self etching for aluminum, and paint. The drip rails I ground as well as chrome doesn't dull very much with blast. Same process with them as the grill trim. They are holding up great.

Thanks! That helps alot. I did a google search. Just kept finding forum talk and I know I can trust this one!!!

I'm just kinda tired with all the chrome everything! I've been playing with the idea of black trim on white. That's kind of common now though. I'm going to primer it black first and see if I like it. If not going back to the gold on black theme. Or maybe gold and chrome?

I did mine all the same color as the truck, yellow. I did my grill, and bumpers black.
