Starter Harness Reroute
« on: July 13, 2011, 04:48:31 pm »
The harness that comes off the starter and partially covers the passenger valve cover, does it have to go over the engine?  I hate that thing.  Anyone go from the starter to firewall and up from there?  My '83 v8 Silverado if that matters.

On my '85 burb it runs up over the bell housing where it meets the block (behind the distributor). I routed the new wiring harness in my '71 the same way.
There are two tools needed, duct tape and WD40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD 40.

you can route it how ever you want, just make sure it wont touch a sharp edge, a moving part, or something hot like exhaust.

Mine goes from a gear reduction starter straight to the inside of the frame rail then to the high amp one wire alt which is lowered with a new bracket then to the battery which has the post facing the front with a longer cable running through the header panel.
The ignition wire is directly over the bell housing then to the ign + neutral safety switch and back.

I scrapped all the originial mess incuding the dist block but was sure to include new fusible links

When I did my underhood clean up I stripped everything out, labeled the wires and didn't worry about how it was, but rather what I needed. (I hate seeing wires) Just really a little differant approach none of my wires are ended up in the same place as they were originially and most are eliminated completely.
