k 30 crew cab poly cab mounts with body lift?
« on: July 19, 2011, 06:08:12 pm »
Hey guys i am in the process of putting a 8.1l vortec with a s6-650 6speed manual in my crew and need a few opinions.

Due to the fact that the 6 speed is huge, i need to install a body lift into my truck. the question i have is do i have to use poly mounts with a body lift? (I believe i do).

Will poly body mounts make it ride alot rougher?

I pull gooseneck trailers lot with this pickup so i want a little of a lift as i can get away with, i think about a 1" body lift and cutting and raising the tunnel an 1" .

Has anyone seen a 1" body lift for a 86 crew?

Thanks for all the help.

poly bushing will allow more vibration to transfer into the cab vs factory rubber mount.

I have all poly bushings on my truck and the ride is slightly stiffer than stock but i took the trade off for the life time of poly. i have seen a 3" on an 87 K30 and it looked alright other than the fact the gas tanks hung about 2" below the body line. I would think a 1" would be hard to tell from stock

I'm curious how much you would have to raise the transmission tunnel in order to fit the 6 speed without doing a body lift?

Is it just too much of an amount that it will make the floor look funny/awkward or interfere with seats?

It looks like its about an 1 1/4" to 1 1/2". i could make it work but the carpet might look a little funny.
I am not really a big fan of the whole body lift thing but it just might be easier.

I will let you know in more detail, when i get alittle farther along.

You can use stock replacement rubber body mounts if you get the longer hardware and nylon body lift blocks.  They come in 1, 2, or 3" lift. and they are pretty cheap if I remember right, less than 100 bucks for a 3" kit with hardware, they do not usually include new rubber though, they expect you to reuse 30= year old rubber bushings ::).  check ebay, for good deals on just what you need.
