'86 C10 into a '78 K20
« on: July 19, 2011, 08:47:02 pm »
Hey guys been a while since I’ve been on here. With school and work I’ve been busier than a one-armed paperhanger with crabs. I actually just stared school at a local college and am enrolled in the GM ASEP program it is a school dealership co-op for 2 years and you get all the automotive training and are able to obtain all your ASE’s too. I’m pretty mechanically inclined so it was a natural fit for me.

When I was here last I had my ’86 C10. As some might remember it was involved in an accident. I was rear-ended and hit so hard the frame was bent pretty badly. The insurance company wanted to total my truck I went back and forth with them and ended up on settling for $3,000 and keeping the truck. Other than the bent frame, rear bumper and slightly crumpled bedside the truck was still in good shape. It was rust free, had a fresh 350/400 combo and a good interior.

I decided I was going to rebuild the truck and was tired of the 2WD deal so I bought a 1980 K20 for $800. The truck ran and drove well had 350/465 combo with full float 14 bolt and 44 front with 4.11 gears and had a solid frame. The body was pretty rough though.

The plan was to swap the cab and bed from the 86 on the 80 frame and use the 80 front clip with a 78 grill and trim. In the process I stripped and sealed the frame went through both axles, freshened up the motor and installed a new clutch as well as many other little things brakes and fuel lines and all the boring stuff.

Got the truck back together and installed a 4’ lift with rancho springs in the front and a DIY 4X shackle flip in the rear. Right now it has a set of 33’s I had plans are for 35’s when they wear out. Paint is soon to come as well. I plan on doing a black base with a white 2-tone stripe down the sides (the cab was black originally and it has black interior.)

It’s a work in progress but hey what truck isn’t. I’m sure in forgetting a lot too so any questions just ask. Im also not the best of taking pictures once I start working  so I don’t have many under construction pictures. Below are a few pictures from the old truck to the new truck. The last ones are in our neighborhood 4th of July parade.

i know its a ford but i thought this was a cool picture

Looks good, great looking bumper!  ;D
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
