My 1979 C-20
« on: July 27, 2011, 09:54:31 pm »
Here is my 79 C-20. I bought it in December of 2008 and have spent a lot of time working on it. It's not quite show quaility, but it's it's a great daily cruiser. Thanks to Captkaos, Vile Zambonie, 78 Chevyrado and everyone else who helped me out with either some know-how or words of encouragement. I know it would have never turned out as nice as it did without the help of you guys. I had seen this truck about 15 years ago and know the company that it came from. It spent it's entire life hauling electric motors around Lafayette, Louisiana until I got it.
The truck had been serviced regularly and had spent most of it's nights indoors but it was still pretty well used up when I got. The headache rack was installed in 1979 so I had to leave it on. When I first saw the truck for the second time it was pretty sad looking but it was love at first sight.
So far I have: Rebuilt the 350,  redone the A/C (new parts and hoses), new radiator, windshield wiper motor, repaired the rust in the floor boards, installed new Moog ball joints and tie rod ends, repacked the wheel bearings, new brakes, serviced the transmission and rear end, replaced the end of the bed behind cab, refurbished interior. Also insulated the floor and up the back wall of the cab.

Finally got some shots going! I have some before, during and after. The headache rack was demet coated when it was built and it was still in great shape with no rust. I just painted it with gun metal gray. I redid the painted bumper with the same paint as well.

Thanks Bitzer. I always kind of liked the factory look and I tried not to stray too far away from that.
