No vin tag
« on: August 13, 2011, 12:58:01 pm »
Hi everyone no related truck question here!! My friend went and got what it looks to me 70 percent restored 63 impala base model. It's matching numbers besides the trans it was a 3 on tree.. However he looked at it and payed figured he have it shipped. Went through the car matching cowl tag etc!! So it comes up when someone painted it you can see the rivet holes were painted in maybe 8 years ago. He has the title guy had a bit.. There no vin tag in the door though nothing so what can we do know? I hate to see the car be junk or parts car to nice.. It has a clear title and everything buy the door vin is gone. Not sure what to do in Ind they have police check the vin and you go bmv than and title and register it. With out a vin tag the car is what useless and he got robbed I guess you could say. These cars are 48 years old held in by 2 rivets I think when it was painted years back the vin was taken out.. Anybody ever had this happen? Any tips be great he's really bent up about it thanks everyone!!

In California you can get a duplicate VIN #.  But it is no easy task.  You have to have documentation of the previous registration, then you have to pay to get the frame, engine, etc. vin #'s verified.
Than the chp has to check it out and then you take all that paper work back to dmv.

if you buy and old busted up rusty car you can get it cheap. Its either that or you take it to dmv where is something doesn’t look right you might it anyway and they take it apart and you still pay for that

It's matching numbers besides the trans it was a 3 on tree..

Numbers matching means the vin should be there, and match the #'s on the block and anywhere else.....
If the vin wasn't on the vehicle, you can not show it as a numbers matching vehicle.
He should have never bought it without the vin on the vehicle.
