Driveshaft clearance
« on: August 21, 2011, 08:51:50 pm »
My truck is a 83 k20 long bed camper special all stock. When I got the truck it had a 400 in it. I had to swap it out due to someone leaving out 5 of the transmission bolts out of the bell housing. I ended up putting a monster 700r4 with their deep pan. When I went to put in the front shaft back in there was maybe very little clearance. I cannot put my fingers through the space between the pan and shaft. Do y'all think I have enough clearance still or would you recommend swapping over to a stock pan.

Would lowering the crossmember with some spacers help?

I dont think he meant lift it  I think he was saying maybe your front springs are sagging. And leaf springs wont affect MPG

im with capt. it does look close to the trans but you’re going to flex that much to the side also the spacers might make a difference if you put them back on top

I didnt even think about the spacers. Yes, they should go back on top because you dont have any lift. that will raise the transmission up.

Your transmission mounts look old too. New ones will raise it a little.

In the 6th picture in your photobucket album, the driveshaft doesnt even look bolted in. That can make a difference too.

Didn't even look at that picture Beastie,  Spacers are not on the correct side for a factory truck, they should be flipped.
