Great news!
« on: August 24, 2011, 05:34:47 am »
Well, unfortunately on February 8th my mom was involved in an accident. She was in her 03 Avalanche leaving a parking lot facing east bound and stopped waiting for traffic to clear up. A Honda Civic facing west bound waiting to turn left and go south on the opposite sude of the road tried to beat the oncoming cars. A yaris traveling south bound hit the passenger rear end of the car, making it spin 90° and slam directly into the front of my moms truck perpendicular. The force pushed her truck back 4 feet, and broke the frame around her sun roof. It bent the frame where her tow hooks bolted and messed up her shoulder really bad. Ahe needs extensive surgery and will be unable to work for 6-10 weeks if she gets it.  The Civic was completely totalled. Well, the insurance company of the civic driver has been dealing with me mom and trying to keep a law suit out of the picture. My mom said she wants the money for the sugery for when she has time to do it, loss of pay for those 6-10 weeks, personal grief, and so on. The surgery without insurance would cost like 15,000 dollars with the anesthesia and physical therapy etc. she probably wont have the surgey do to her very busy work schedule.  So, the insurance company made a settlement with my mom for 37,000 dollars. She has to pay 6k for some left over medical bills so she'll have 31k to do whatever she wants with. And, shes buying me a rruck! My great uncles 79 k20 with a 383, th400 4.10 gears, D60 rear, D44 front, winch bumpers, lift and tires. Beautiful tru,k, its just really rusty. She's also giving me 4k that she owes me from a lawsuit I had in third grade when a kid broke my nose and the school did nothing about it. And, she will buy me the rest of the stuff I need for my paint job on my 79 c20. So, yeah. Awesome news.

She needs surgery but doesn't have time?
Refuse her offer man...You should have a healthy mom before you have truck stuff.
I hope you mom is ok in the long run.

Take it from some one who skipped my left shoulder surgery, and I had it on my right one.  She will be in pain most of her life with that shoulder if she doesn't get it.

It would be wise for your mom to keep a diary and document every day how she feels, where it hurts, what she can and can't do, how it affects her sleep habits, time or days that she missed work, out of pocket bills involving the accident,  transportation to the doctor, medication, etc.  This may become very important if litigation is ever contemplated. Do not leave things to memory because the details will be forgotten.

Hope your mom recovers satisfactorily.

The air bag didnt go off, the truck had a couple thousand in damage. Broken lights, broken grill, ripped frame, destroyed bumper, broken sun roof, scratched paint. My is doing weekly physical therapy. Shes already had 6 knee surgeries and 4 ankle surgeries. She can.still function without heer shoulder surgery and isnt in much pain due to the therapy. she runs a family doctors office, and if she had the surgery and had to miss 6-10 weeks, the business would probably crash, she would most definitely lose her job, and then we would lose everything.  She made her decision and I cannot change her mind. As it is she's already having another knee surgery in a couple weeks. He shoulder is ligament damage and can be healed over time. What happened is when she got hit she locked up her arms grabbing the steering wheels and her body went foreward but her locked arms stopped her shoulder and made it stay so it tore ligaments. And I think she's also kind of milking it, but I dont knkw that for sure.

??? you sued your mom cause some kid broke your nose?

Health first, career second, and new toys for junior somewhere quite a bit further down the list. I wish her a full recovery.

Grim, no. my mom and myself sued the school district and got 3600 that she said I could have when I was 18. But, we had a finacial hardship and she had to use it. But now ahes giving me the momey.
And irish, ligaments DO heal. Last december I severed 2 out of 3 ligaments in my left ankle rolling my ankle down stairs and they have healed. It just takes time.
