Clutch Pedal staying down?
« on: August 28, 2011, 07:29:05 pm »
Hey Im looking at another old Chevy, a 76 and when I test drove it around the clutch pedal would sometimes but not all the time stay down but then come up a few seconds after. Most of the time it wouldnt do it but sometimes it would. Anyone know what might caue that? Or what I could do to fix it if I got the truck. Thanks

Could be the bell crank, which is the rod that attaches between the frame and bell housing and the clutch linkage comes into it from the top. It has a grease zirk on the bottom, so it may need greasing. Or a worn out return spring. Or a slipping/worn clutch plate.

I had one on an 83 bend and sometimes you would have to help the pedal back up with the top of your foot.

Mine does that if you floor the pedal when shifting above 5k.  It's actually humorous when someone else drives my truck, gets too excited and floors the clutch.

Yeah that's what it seamed like, when you put the pedal right to the floor. Maybe some greasing or WD-40 might help?

It could also be internal with the spring assy. for the throwout bearing.  Check carefully the external parts to see if you can find the problem, if not it is internal.

Ok I feel sorta stupid, Didnt have a good enough look at it before. The P.O put these pads over the pedals and bolted them down and the bottum of the bolt was just digging into the thick rubber floor mat and getting stuck... lol  ::)  thanks though you guys haha. I know what IM removing soon

haha. Good find. Kinda like when someone complains that their car doesn't seem to have the same power it used to and you move their new floor mat out from under the gas pedal.
