deciding if i should buy
« on: August 29, 2011, 05:29:30 pm »
im deciding if i should buy a truck i found for sale, would appreciate any advice.  guy wants to part it out, but would take 600 minus tires and wheels.  motor wont crank, body is rough in the pic, but he wont budge on price.  seems steep to me.  just wondering what you all think.  thanks  Thomas2570547880

i bought a decent diesel (non-runner) complete for 700 and did a little better than broke even plus got the parts i wanted off it for free. hard to say. if i did it over i would have tried for less. if its rough i would pass at that cost personally unless there is something good about it like new doors or awesome rear end or the like.

I look at it this way, if the parts on the truck would cost you more than $600.00 to buy new or somewhere else, it is a good deal, If you are looking for more parts than the truck will give you than it is not a good deal.

idk what scrap is going for but you could take what you want off and scrap the rest. but 600 for a truck thats rough and doesn’t run is little high

i cant figure out how to load pics yet, but i think i can get the guy to take 500.  im going to go look at it this weekend as it is 1.5 hours north.  im really curious why it wont run, but wont know if the motor is good till i see it.  gonna play it by ear.  the same guy listed a suburban(88) a few weeks ago for parts.  he was at 800 then and still has it and has come down to 600.  if nothing else, maybe i will get some needed parts to bring home.

scrap is at $260 a ton right now in Mass. If you have a way to transport it like a ramp truck or car trailer, you can buy it, strip it, junk it and atleast break even $$ wise and keep the free parts.

didnt someone make a tow bumper at one time that allowed you to pukk a vehicle, ive been looking for one of these or a way to make one at the shop.  any pics or info would be helpful so i dont need to get a trailer to get it home.

me and a bud made one for a 82. never showed it on here so i know you’re not talking about it but it just bolted to the frame where the front bumper bolts to with only two bolts so it can move and went to a y. but i think it was brought up on here that if the wheels are touching then it has to be insured unless its on a tow dolly or something like that
