For all you bridge buffs out there (ok maybe I'm the only one!)

I've lived on the Alaska Highway all my life, and met many ww2 veterans over the years that helped the U.S. Army build the highway.  Quite a few of them stayed, they were given a 1/4 section of land along the highway if they did, and I grew up on a farm around mile 22 which is also where the Kistkatinaw Bridge is.  It is one of a few curved wooden bridges that exist today, and I have always enjoyed hiking and camping around there, the bridge itself is still in great shape.

that is awesome scenery there.  I'm jealous.  I love camping in the mountains in VA, but, w/ that scenery, I'd be camping everyday.  Great history too, they don't make bridges like that anymore--great craftmanship.  You could tell metal was quite a commodity to make the weapons of war in the early '40's.

That is cool!  Any pics down around the footings looking up from the bottom?  Can you still access the original fording location?

We had a few wooden bridges around where I grew up in Indiana ... but nothing that long or that scenic.  I do remember going to Col with my parents in a 28' motor-home (Chevy drivetrain )  We went down to Cripple Creek, an old gold rush town where his mom lived for a bit around 1910.  To get out of there we had to cross  what seemed like a really long wooden bridge.  He said we were right on the weight limit, must have been cause he made us get out and walk across! :eek  Seemed a bit over 50 yards one lane, but I was just a young'un.

Yes, that's a beauty, it's a train bridge, too bad you couldn't drive across it!

i got the chills just looking at those haha  im terrified of heights lol.   but i love the look of them and the history.  here in my area we have alot of wooden covered bridges. this coming spring were going to get our truck club together and do a bridge tour  due to there being so many and snap great pics.  i was hoping to be ready for fall but o well.

Very cool! I love seeing old history like that. we have a few wooden covered bridges up by my grandpas that i love going to see but nothing like that. wow! Truck looks great too!

Those are some really nice bridges! All of the wooden bridges in my area are gone
