warped rotor??

2wd front caliper seized, when it did the heat generated produced a lot of smoke. of course i stopped immediately.
when i pulled the caliper off surprisingly the rotor was in perfect condition. what is the likelihood that it was warped/damaged from the excessive heat? i do not have the proper gauge/tools needed to check run out. any opinions - use it or replace it? not looking to do unnecessary work or re-do work

I would wait until it cools, then, IN A SAFE AREA, check if I can feel a new vibration. BUT THAT IS ME.

Also depends how old the rotors and brakes are. Might just want to replace them as well as the caliper too.

the caliper stuck or it siezed and the wheel wouldnt turn?

If they look good, Id try em.  if they're not cracked and the pedal feels fine, run em.  if in dount, a machine shop can check them for you, or turn them while they have them.  if you have them turned, watch the guy cut them.  if you see any areas that are harder to cut than others, you have overheated spots and it will still work, but the vibration will be back shortly.

     If you have the tools to check run out, and the caliper and pads are off already why not take the little extra time to pull the rotor and check it with your tool and know for sure if it is warped or not ?  That way the guessing it out and you wont take the chance of runing the rotor.

If I was wanting to avoid extra cost /work I would reasemble the ro0tor and caliper making sure my caliper problem was fixed. Then I would turn the rotor by hand and eyeball it. Maybe put a straight edge on it while I turned it.  If it looked OK, I would button it up and drive it. Try putting on brakes and see if it grabs and then lets go. If it feels like it's pulsating  (grabbing then letting go over and over), it's warpped. You probably don't have anything to worry about. Rotors are made to get hot and they can take some abuse.

I would just put the caliper and new pads on it and try it if your rotor looks good. It only takes minutes to take the caliper back off. If your rotor is worn I would say now is the time to put new ones on.

the rotors both look really good and fairly new.
i did get up close and eyeballed it while spinning the rotor and could not see anything wrong with my nakied eye.
maybe i will try it.

Simple, drive 60 mph and apply the brakes.  If the front end feels like an earthquake of 8.0 when slowing down, turn or change the rotors.
