How much would you pay for new rear bumper?
« on: September 02, 2011, 07:37:22 pm »
My rear bumper has been bent since I got the truck. (87) How much should I pay for one from the junkyard? I realize price may vary depending on chrome or not, but what would you pay?

typically local body shops can get repop stuff for fairly cheap. and saves the oversize shipping too. but to answer your question, maybe 25-40 tops.

The Pull-A-Part place down here wants right at 36 bucks as is.  This includes a $2.58 core charge.

i got my nice shiney chrome bumper for 40 from the place its was for a 81 truck but fit on my 80 just fine. it has 1 part spliting from someone grinding it during manufacturing that caused it to split but its is ok since i got a hitch to haul things and not the bumper

I bought a seat from a guy for $25. He insisted I also take a fairly nice step bumper with brackets, a 1/2 ton ralley wheel and some 71ish 4x4 hubcaps as part of the deal. Not sure where you're at but the one I have is just taking up space. I also bought an 82 chrome front bumper with brackets and lights in it for $50 from a different guy. That's probably about the most I'd pay for one from the boneyard unless it's super nice.

Yeah it was almost perfect. This guy had a bunch of square bodies and was trying to sell all the parts he could before the crusher comes in. :( He probably had over 100 trucks and said they were going to pay him $200 a ton. They bring the crusher to his place, do all the work and haul it all out. After he told me he'd be able to finish his cabin he built by his pond with the $20k he was going to get for them it was hard to argue with him. He is making an effort to sell anything worthwhile before they get smashed though. I also got a windshield for $25(perfect w/antenna), a dash pad for $10(not perfect but only one small crack and a tremendous improvement over what I had), a couple of horns he gave me free and an aftermarket fender for $30. It was a pretty good day.

If you're asking about the rear bumper I have, I don't think there's much difference across the years:

Sorry about the lousy pics it's getting dark earlier every day. If you want some better ones I can take some tomorrow. Once again, I'm not sure where you're at but I'm in central MO and if you need it, it's yours for the taking.

That's about what I would ask for it if I advertised it. Don't know why I just sit on some of this stuff, I've got plenty of parts that I'd like to get rid of but just don't feel like taking pics, making the ad, etc...easier just to let it sit around  ;D

I got a good front bumper for $30 from one of the local yards, I went to probably 4 different yards before I found a good one though.
