cab leak
« on: September 14, 2011, 05:18:12 pm »
Hey guys hopefully you guys can help me out. I have a 84 k10 silverado, all original, ac truck. I bought the pickup back in july and I drive it every day. It hasnt rain much at all since i have bought the truck but today it just poured. This morning it was drizzling,I got in the truck and the drivers floor board was wet, then later at work I went out on break, it was pouring and the driver side floorboard was soaked, there was a slow drip under the dash right above the brake pedal. Any ideas guy? no cab lights or visor

Probably your cowl has a problem with rust.  Pop the wiper arms off, remove the cowl, and plastic and you will probably find all kinds of stuff down there.  Because mine aren't for show I clean them the best I can, remove the rust and I have had great luck using paint-able silicone caulk to plug the problem.  Then when all has dried I use 100% solids 2 K epoxy and seal it up.  Never had it leak again on me.  There are other fixes that I am sure will be commented on but this is what has worked for me.

I never did anything about this problem you just described and my 1st trucks drivers side floor boards and rocker panel are completely rusted out. I never sealed it up and ten years later I have a parts truck :-\

God Bless ya,

Jay

Besides the cowl that Zieg noted...Check the bottom of the windshield & the fresh air vents, I've seen both of these cause problems also. Good Luck, Lorne

X2 on this.
I had a similar leak in my 86 cab. I kept blaming it on a visor bolt where it looked like they caught the visor on a branch 4 wheeling or something. I kept trying to seal it up without removing the visor with no luck. When I tore my truck down I found the problem was not that visor bolt but another one that looked fine. That damaged my truck worse than just the floor. If I had looked harder when I first got the truck I might not be prepping my new cab for paint now. Keep digging until you find the leak.

Give me a long enough lever and a place to stand, and I shall move the earth or break this bolt...Whatever, just hold my beer!

Don't forget the door seals. My 87 R10 driver side door was out of adjustment. It had dropped down. Got the door fixed and I replaced the seal....

x2. My granddads old truck rusted under the windshield rubber and it leaked everytime it rained hard.
