80K10 Long Bed Stepside
« on: September 28, 2011, 02:33:01 pm »
I went to check out this 80K10 from Craig's List.  The guy was parting it out of all things.  By the time I had got there, he'd sold a cowl induction hood off of it.  All I was looking for was a front bumper.  I got the bumper and the rest of the truck.  It's in better shape than my 79, so I'm switching projects.  What do you think? (I hope the pictures come through, they don't show up when I preview this post).

WOW, great find.  I can't believe he was parting it out.  What kind of price did you give, if you don't mind me asking?

low budget,

I was asking him about what he wanted for the motor when he said, "Give me $1,600 and you can have the whole thing".  The 350 had been rebuilt recently with a mild cam, had a new Edelbrock carburator, billet valve covers and air cleaner, headers (rusty) and brand new exhaust system with Magnaflow mufflers (sounds great).  The radiator was brand new as was the windshield.  He'd replaced the grill and headlight bezels.  The truck still needed some work, but for that price, I was ahead of the game.

Since then I've put in new interior door panels and have had a bench seat recovered (I got the seat cover from Chris on this site).  I also have new seat belts to go in it (from Chris also).  I'll take pictures of that process and post later.

I'm not sure if I like the long bed as much as the short bed stepsides, but I guess it'll grow on me.  Not crazy about the orange color either, but that can be changed later.  Thinking about a 3"-4" lift and 33's.

Just think, now you can tell all your friends that you paid $1600.00 for a bumper.  It is going to look great when you are done, not to many long step side 4x4 fixed up out there.
