84 lwb 2wd scottsdale.

well yall. i cant post pics cuz it says its too big but heres the jist. my neighbor give me an 84 chevy scottsdale that had been sittin in a field for 8 years. i got 3 good tires on it, took off and cleaned the quadraJUNK carb and it ran. but i put it in geAr and it dont move. maybe it just needs some trans fluid. but im tryin to make me a nice truck for not a whole lot because im 14 years old an strapped for cash.  ..

have you checked the fluids. with the truck you will get to learn alot if you do the work yourself im 18 and have learned so much from my c-30 scottsdale dually.

yeah it doesnt have any trans fluid so i havent ran it any more. but heck i got it for free and i have been around chevy motors all my life i have helped build many! im very exited.

     Wow, 14 and somebody gave you a truck, that is great, just think you have 2 years to work on it so you can drive it.

Sweet hook up! Don't sell the Qjet short, I've got one on my 74 and it's a great runner. Much less finicky than a Holley and perfect for a DD IMO

     If you rebuild the Q-jet right and know how to tune them right, they will out perform a holley any day.

yeah i got a edelbrock permormer intake i might put that carb back on. idk yet tho.

As far as a q-jet vs holley; you should understand that the q-jet is a spread bore carb and the holley is a square bore carb. Properly tuned either will preform well as intended.

However a square bore carb will offer better a/f distribution at wide open throttle due to the primarys and secondaries being the same size and quicker throttle response period due to having a larger primary than a spreadbore carb.

keeping in mind you are going to be in wide open throttle less than 2% on a daily driver...
 
The Q-jet is much better for a street car, the Holley is better for a all out drag car, and even then with the right person working on it, the Q-jet is still a performer.  Holleys are inherently finicky also.

Check these cars out..  If it came with a Q-Jet, it HAS to run one..  And these cars are not slow... and they are doing this on factory tires....   http://www.fastraces.org
