my 80 c10
« on: October 04, 2011, 01:23:55 pm »
well i finally got her running.  my carb was terrible so i had to get a new one.  it also had a camper shell on it when i first got it...but i'm not too keen on them.  so i sold it and once i did that, i wanted to get her on the road.  it's not the most cosmetically appealing truck, but it's my work in progress.  it currently needs front quarter panels on both sides, as they have holes.  there's also a small hole in the floor pan right next to the door.  i'll also be putting new headlight bezels on...as the chrome is peeling...as well as a nice billet grill.  i want to put a nice 2-3 inch cowl induction hood on as well as exhaust.  once i get her running in top shape, i'll get her painted.  i'm thinking of going with either black or flat black.  the first pic is the day i got her...with the shell on.  the 2nd pic was taken after the shell was sold.  let me know what you think!!

Are the holes in the bed from rust or from the factory trim since it is the two tone and I don't see the trim anywhere? It'd be cheaper to weld up the holes most likely than getting new bedsides.  And if there is rust, Capt sells patch panels that will solve your rust issues.

If you don't weld, its pretty easy to learn, and knowing how to fix stuff yourself will save $$ in the long run.

And any sort of black is gonna require stellar body work to look good. I like your factory two tone myself.

And welcome from Arizona!

slammed79...thanks for the welcome.  the holes aren't in the bed...they are on both front quarter panels...at the bottom...right behind the front wheel wells...on both sides.  the bed looks pretty solid.  i've heard that black will require a great deal of work.  this truck isn't a daily driver for me...more of a weekend truck for dump runs or lowes/home depot runs.  i just really want it to be all one uniform color.  i may just rattle can primer the whole truck until i figure out what i wanna do....seeing as the front half is already done.  i do want the exhaust and i love the cowl hoods...even though i can do without that for a while.

thirsty...thanks...i think it looks a ton better without the shell as well.

here's a question.  my headlights were working the other nite, but i went to drive it last nite and they weren't working.  the parking lights were, but the headlights weren't...which leads me to believe i've popped a fuse.  can someone tell me the location of the headlight fuse??

yeah we used rattle can took us about three days due to us having to go back to get more paint and sand paper i did everything on the truck sanded the rust down to bare metal and the it could have really been done in a day maybe two the max due to use having to run around and most the time it being just me doing it. coming up soon i need to go back over it as some spots of very minor surface rust are showing up from it sitting

do you remember how many cans it took?  this is something i've been thinking about doing since i got the truck...and with the weather not being too hot or too cold right now...it may be a good time to start.  or i may just have to wait for the spring...

my truck took i would say about 15-20 big cans cause i bought most of it at the flea market and they were about half the size of a regular can but urs would take less since mine is a crew cab dually

Ah, you need fenders. The cheap way out is either Craigslist or a junkyard. Good quality replacement parts can be had by clicking the banner up top. I wouldn't use the initial guys, unless you enjoy pounding your head against a wall.

And I can dig wanting your truck all one color, that's the only reason I haven't changed out the caved door on my 74 yet.

yeah...i saw a guy on my local craigslist that had the fenders for sale.  i think i'm gonna go to the junkyard to see if i can pull a set for cheap.  once i get that taken care of...i'll look to start sanding and painting to get it all one color.  everything else...with the exception of the floor pan is good.
