Cab swap

I have a swb 1978 C10.  I want to put another cab on it because of some damage it has.  I can get another cab for free.  The only problem is the new cab has no title.  Will this be a problem when for like licenseing.  Beause it will have a different vin on the new cab.  If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it.

Just run your VIN #s.

     Or you could just switch the vin #'s and plates on the cabs, though the legal way is to go to dmv and fill out paper work that you are switching cabs, so they can switch vin #'s, though nobody I assume does that, they just switch the plates.

I would strongly suggest you take the truck, with it's new cab, to your State's DMV.  As mentioned, most DMVs will issue a new identification number to legally reflect the change.

Changing the VINs on cabs are what auto (and truck) theft chop shops do.

I wouldn't take it to DMV, and get a new number. Then it will be a current year model, and it would be considered a built, or manifactured truck. It will fall under any laws, rules, etc. for inspection, registration, and emisions.
If you want the state involved you want it to be a salvage VIN # / title over a new VIN #. That way it will still be considered a year correct rig.
Have done the VIN # swap many times. These trucks are so old now they are not high on any stolen watch list. Be pretty far fetched for any street cop to tell the difference, and I dought they would even be looking on this old a truck.

I agree with blazin on his comments.I had to do a cab swap on my truck as well, i bought a cab from a guy that had the registration and tag in his hand but lost the title and i made him sign a document that the cab and truck isnt stolen and gave me his phone number and address.Cover all your bases on this,i took my vin from my old cab and trannsfered it to the new cab, i cut up the old cab and scrapped it along with other junk that came from the truck including the frame.

I know many people who have swaped the vin plates with no problems. I agree that these trucks are getting old enough that it isn't going to matter.
