POR 15

I am currently restoring my 85 K10. I am working on the bed and frame under the bed right now. the frame is in rough shape with lots of rust. but from the cab forward the frame is in good shape. I am going to reinforce the back end of the frame so it will handle the 383 I am putting in the truck next summer after deployment. I have been reading about this POR 15 alot but I am some questions. Is it correct to leave some surface rust on the metal for the POR 15  to bond to? Can I brush it on? And has anyone here used it succesfully? I just want some honest testimony to this product before I invest my time and money into it. Thanks everyone.

If the rust isn't flaky and loose you can paint right over it.  You can brush it on.  I have used it on several trucks.  The "website" truck was parted with this and I topcoated it with enamel.

I just finished doing my frame with POR 15. As you stated, the rust was worse toward the back and not as bad toward the front.
I just used a cheap 1" wide (to get into all the cracks and crevices) paint brush and painted it. It takes a while but turned out awesome. I wish I would have done it 15 years ago when I restored the truck the first time.
I powerwashed the frame a few weeks ago and just before I painted it, I did a quick wire brush and blew it clean with an air gun. The more rusted areas seemed to take more material than the smoother areas. I used pretty much a whole quart doing my truck. I did both frame rails and all the cross members.
Use the POR 15 with confidence. After you're done, you'll be glad you did. I promise.

I am in the navy. And thank you. Im gonna give this POR 15 a try. Do I have to order it offline or do auto stores carry it? Thanks for the input fellas. I've finally started to dig into the truck last weekend and got some new (used) fenders in south Carolina. I'm excited to try this stuff. Thanks again.

I used the por-15 on my frame bout 3 years ago and it looks just as good today as it did then. I pressure washed it and then used a wire brush to knock off any scale, then I brushed it on. None of my local  auto stores carried it I had to order it online.

I used it on my SM465. Wire brushed it to remove all of the caked on dirt and rust chunks, degreased it with Simple Green, and put it on with a cheap bristle brush. A little bit of it goes alot further than you would think it would. After sliding the trans around on the garage floor and having it on the jack to install it, the coating on the bottom held up well. I bought mine from a local refinish supply center.

HAve you looked at Chassis Saver? Same stuff but about half the price!

Pressure washed and used a steel brush [repeated this a few times] the chassis of my step side then applied the Por-15. First coat was a satin black but found the second coat came out with more of a gloss finish.
