Column Shift linkage stuck
« on: November 09, 2011, 12:22:22 pm »
I just did a transmission rebuild on my 700R4 for my 82 C10. I put it back in the truck, and hooked up the shift linkage exactly as it was before (simple, right?)
BUT now it will not shift. At all. Its stuck in park, even though with the linkage off I can grab the shift bracket on the transmission and click it through all the gears by hand.
So its not the transmission.

You must have something backwards. Try this: Remove the lower linkage, put the shifter in Park (turn the key to "Off" so it can't move, go under the truck & manually put the trans in "Park" (verify by not being able to spin the driveshaft with the rear jacked up), loosen the 1/2" bolt on the linkage & install it to see where you are, snug it down & re-check. My guess is you have the Z-bar going in the trans bracket 180* off with the trans all the way in Low. Hope this helps, Lorne
