Hump Swap
« on: November 11, 2011, 04:59:16 am »
This could've went in drivetrain or body I guess, but this seems right. Move it if it ain't.

Anyhow I've got an 87 2wd auto, and I figure that means a small stamped hump in the floor. I might go up to a NV4500 or something, and was wondering about the swap.

I know I'll pretty much need to cut mine out and bolt a big one in its place. My buddy has a 78 4x4 (can't remember if auto or stick) and he's just using it for parts. I'm guessing he would have a big bolt-in hump in his.

Would this line up with mine after some self tapping screws or did the floor change so that a 78 large hump wouldn't fit with an 87 small hump?

I believe I have read on here that it would work with minuim alterations, I am sure someone will chime in though who either has done it or knows for sure.

The hump from a 4x4 will lay over the 4x2 hump, just cut the opening out up to where the bolts are and bolt it up.  Blazin has a post on this somewhere.

I replaced my old cab with a rust-free one recently.... my truck is an 86 4wd automatic (700R4 NP208) and the donor cab was an 83 2wd automatic.... didn't realize it when I bought it.

I just cut out the hump from my old one and I test fitted it and it looks fine. I'll take some pics when I get done... should be next weekend.

I should say.... when you cut out the hump try to cut out as little as possible because I cut out a large section on my old cab and I felt it warp as soon as I did it. Fortunately this was the old one so I don't have to worry about it, but it would suck if you did it to the cab you are using.
