What is this? (Pic inside)
« on: November 14, 2011, 08:21:02 pm »
It says "Sure Stop". It is located right beside the steering column. I have never tried it and I don't even know if it works. What is it for? And how do I test it to see if it works?

looks like its for trailer brakes if im right the nob if turned will put the brakes more on the trailer as u push the brake pedal so you can set the trailer to apply the brakes before the truck does to help save your trucks brakes

Is there a hydraulic line going to the brake master cylinder?

If so, then bigchevyc30 is correct, it is a trailer brake controller. A very ancient one at best.

Hmm.. interesting. No, there isn't a hydraulic line from what I can see. I guess I'll just tear it off then because I don't tow anything anyway. Thanks guys.

The patent number did not come up, so they did not get it.  Does it have any wires, some newer trailer brakes modules are electronic.

My guess would be trailer brakes.

It looks like an older electronic brake contoller look for wires leading to near your brake pedal brake light swtch. Do you have  6 or 7-pin trailer connector? either way you will have an output to at that connector; when the brakes are applied you will have a voltage output that range from 1-12 volts depending on the pedal pressure applied to the brake pedal(with the key on) the easiest way to test this would be to plug in a trailer with electronic brakes and try it. The next would be to get a tester for trailer light connectors.
