one notch from the rear would be un-locked then with the hubs unlocked if you still move then yes you have the kit. but on a side note if it only has 4 shift positions then i would take the rubber boot off, they might not of removed enough metal for the sifter and it hits 4L unlock but wont hit 4L lock due to the th350 being shorter then the 700r4 that was in there before

Plenty enough cut out to go into 4H. The problem is it won't stay in 4L. That's why I thought there were only five positions. If I push the shifter all the way toward the dash it pops right back to 2L position. The shifter has plenty of clearance. Any ideas?

Check the linkage adjustment under the truck and see if it is adjusted enough to allow enough movement. Also had that problem when my syncro's went out on one of my old transfer cases.

i think i had a similar problem with a 205 when i got some mud up in the linkage and all those little moving parts. like chris said check your linkage and clean it up if it needs it

Sounds like you need to adjust the shifter linkages to keep the T-case in 4 low (L-Loc). Also, if you remove the shifter assembly from the truck; disassemble the shifter and clean and grease all the internal components, you'll be much happier with it.
