86 Diesel Military Blazer not running
« on: December 03, 2011, 01:52:55 pm »
My friend bought this 86 Diesel Military Blazer for his Dad for Fathers Day.  His Dad has it all cleaned up and and it has been running good.  My friend came in from out of state for Thanksgiving and it was his first time to see the vehicle....of course they went to start it up and it would not run.

His Dad replaced the Glow Plugs- Still no run

They both then checked to see if it was getting fuel.  They unscrewed one of the fuel lines that is in the front under the intake manifold.  They tryed to start it and no fuel was coming from the Fuel Regulator Pump (not sure if name is right)  It is the pump that has the multiple fuel lines going into it.

They are at a stand still not as to what to do.

any ideas?

Your on the right track, the fuel injection pump/ fuse is where I would start.  Locate the fuse for the pump (easiest to check first, ok easiest would be to make sure diesel is in tank I guess ), and make sure fuse is good.  Next I would check to make sure pump was getting power, if so check to see if fuel can get to pump (not plugged ), then test the pump with the outlet off and see if you get fuel, if not and if all those check out  bad pump.
If I forgot something, I'm sure more people will respond.  Good luck.

Thanks Bake for the info..tell me, if they get a new pump they have to take the intake off...it looked almost impossible to get all those fuel lines off unless you did that....is it a big job?

I personally do not work on my diesel.  I have a friend that went to school for diesel mechanic, so I pay him.  But I do help him so I learn stuff from time to time, replacing the fuel pump on my 7.3 diesel was a little bit of a job even for him, if memory serves me right, we did take off most of the top lines to get the pump off without damaging anything.
