Fun week at work
« on: December 03, 2011, 03:22:50 pm »
I just went through the most intensive week-long training program I have been through in 20 yrs in law enforcement.  I always have been a good shot at the firing range, including being the top gun last year (highest qualification score of our 300+ sworn personnel).   Now, after 40 hours of shooting over 1,000 rounds and successful scores of 95% or better on all courses of fire, and extensive presentations and other excercises, I am now a certified law enforcement firearms range instructor.   Can't wait 'til the next academy to start so I can share my knowledge.
Next step: Becoming a certified Glock Armorer.  Class is next month for that.

thanks for the replies.
Irish--I had that Glock gif on a powerpoint presentation I had and the instructors loved it.  One person even said, 'that must be one large magazine'.  I told him to see if he could count the rounds.

I'm glad that's behind me and am relieved i have my certification.  been checking out gunbroker.com lately and now want to enlarge my weapons collection.  Gonna buy a 19-teen (early) Colt Model 1911 .45 ACP while they are still buyable.  Also gonna get an original 1860 Colt Army .44 SA revolver. Always wanted one of those possibly used in the civil war.
So, another hobby of mine begins.  gotta start another website now to share my love weapons and my growing collection.  Think i'll go out now and pop a few .40 calibers from my Glock 23.

i love going to the national forest firing ranges when i go camping in the appalachian mountains. You gotta get a pistol--so much fun.  You can get a decent revolver for $200 or even a semi-auto for a bit more used.  Get one that shoots the cheapest ammo like .22 long rifle rounds.  Several hundred rounds for under $20.   I usually buy my agency service weapon each time we get new weapons.  I bought my Glock 17 (9mm), and Glock 22 (.40 cal) for about $400 each.  They even have the name of my agency engraved along the slide--quite a collectible to pass on to my son one day.  Gonna buy my Glock 23 .40 cal when we switch to a new gun soon as well. I still have my first handgun i bought when i started my job in '91--a smith and wesson model 65 .357 magnum/.38 special that i bought for $200 back then.  I love that old revolver.  My father-in-law passed on his collection to me consisting of: a .32 S&W revolver, a .22 S&W model 34 revolver, a compact .380 semi auto 5-shooter, an old 1893 Marlin 30/30 lever action rifle, a Winchester .22 lever action rifle which i love to shoot, a winchester pump .22,  a couple of remington 12 guage shotguns (one pump, one semiauto),  and my Winchester 12 guage pump Santa gave me when i was 12.  So, when i get an antique Colt 45 1911 military issue and a Colt 1860 Army .44 cal, I'll be happy and will have enough toys to play with on camping expeditions--anyone want to join me next spring?

I love it.   ;D  Put more guns in law abiding citizens' hands for a change.

According to the FBI, which processes requests for background checks of prospective gun buyers, 129,166 such checks were performed on Black Friday, Nov. 25, breaking the previous single-day record -- set on Black Friday 2008 -- by nearly a third.

Nice work Sgt.
Santa is bringing me a new G27 this year.

Irish- Some of the best shooting fun is .22lr.   A Marlin model 60 rifle, or a Heritage Arms single action pistol can each be had for ~$160. Or, if you want a little more firepower you can still get a Mosin Nagant 91/30 or M44 for about $100.

I was one of those background checks. My girlfriend bought me a Mossberg 802 Plinkster .22lr. Ive put about 100 rounds through it. Its bolt action, clip fed, with iron sights. Its pretty dang accurate out of the box. I only had to adjust the sights a little bit. It was 120 at Dick's sporting goods and their ammo was buy one get one half off, so 20 bucks got me 666 rounds.

I love taking my daisy .22 out to the range.  I learned to shoot with that gun.  I've taught my gf how to shoot with it and another kid years ago. My gf liked it so much she bought a left handed savage.  I've been thinking about getting a semi .22 pistol for my first one.  I'll just have to figure out the differences between the permits when i get one.

Nice!  A G27 is the subcompact version of my  G23, which is the compact version of my G22.  All .40 cals.  Nice.
My hand is too big for those subcompacts, but, they are easy to conceal, just the mags aren't too large--maybe 9 rounds. However, you can carry larger mags from say a 23, 22 or 35 and throw them in the 27 if needed more rounds.

Guns can be had at small prices.  Visit your local gun store and many of those are used and for sale on consignment---sometime quite cheap.  And, as mentioned, many models are brand new and have attractive prices since they can be made now pretty inexpensively.  .22 lr's are fun to shoot and very cheap.  Especially a lever action rifle.
If anyone is near the mountains of Va and like to camp, shoot me (pardon the pun) a message.  Come March and April I'll be puttin some lead back in the earth.
