Bigger tires throw bigger rocks
« on: December 27, 2011, 01:08:35 pm »
Bigger wide open lug tires pick up and throw bigger rocks.

Before I started rebuilding my truck I had plastic fender flares that protected the wheelwell lip from rock damage.
I'm not really sure I want to have those again.

What are some of you guys using to protect your wheelwell lip? Just stock metal molding or do I have options?

Thanks for your input.

Here in Pennsylvania if your tire treads stick out past the factory wheel wells you have to put fender flairs on the vehicles

I live on a gravel road so rocks fly out of my tires all the time. so i sprayed Line-x down the sides of mine and arched it over the wheel wells to look like flares.  so fair it is holding up good. its not a cheep way to go but it looks good.

There are after market flares that are sturdy and look good.

For aftermarket fender flares, would anyone happen to have a link, or a name of a supplier?

Also, would just stock fender trim keep the lip from getting all chipped up, or is an aftermarket flare recommended?

After all the work of a rebuild, I'd just hate to start chipping the paint up right away.
